আদিকাল থেকে মানুষ তার হৃদয়ের ভাব প্রকাশ করেছে কবিতায়। কখনও প্রতিপাদ্য বিষয় প্রেম, প্রকৃতি, স্বদেশজ-ভাবনা। কখনও বা মানবজীবনের চাওয়া-পাওয়ার বিচিত্র অনুভূতি। এ সংকলনটিতে সাতজন কবির স্বনির্বাচিত কবিতা রয়েছে। ইদানীং বাংলা ভাষাভাষীদের বাইরেও বাংলা সাহিত্যের প্রতি আগ্রহ লক্ষ করা যাচ্ছে। তাদের জন্য কবিতাগুলো ইংরেজিতে ভাবানুবাদ করেছেন এ সংকলনের সম্পাদক। অনুবাদের ত্রুটি-বিচ্যুতির দায়ভার সম্পাদকের।
 
Verses of seven poets have been included in this anthology. Poems were selected by the poets themselves. Universal feelings of human hearts flow in these verses. There is a growing interest in Bangla literature among non-Bengali readers. The editor of the anthology has done rendition in English of the poems. For any shortcoming in translation, only the editor is responsible.
