The author was intrigued with 'Char' building process at the river estuaries from his early shipping career, when he observer in the neovaginal ‘admiralty charts' that only 1 to 3-meter depth is available near the river mouths and in the surrounding areas. Other observations propelled him to investigate further and resulted the book. He has set a target of reclamation of 40,000 sq.km. from sea within 20 30 years, as a long-term process and not as project. The challenges of the Payara Port Dredging project, cost factor and possible integration with land reclamation. Similar suggestion has been made for the Mongla, Chattogram and Matarbari ports' capital as well as maintenance dredging. Funding of the work has been discussed and the final suggestion was that it should not be tendered out to private/ international dredging consortiums, as they are expensive, rather GOB should invest in the range of US$ 350/400 million per year for land reclamation (author thinks that it is within the reach of Bangladesh). This will ensure i) Food security ii) Maritime security iii) Social cohesion iv) balance and maintain population/land ratio v) new industrial and commercial opportunity vi) Costal and Maritime tourism vii) develop- ment of economy with 1.5% GDP growth viii) reduced climate change effect ix) Protection from sea level rise. This will also reduce social discrimination to an extent.

Such a complex long-term undertaking of enormous scale demand detail planning, preparation, set-up efficient technical orient- ed personals, monitoring at every stages. The funding is expected to be complicated since sustaining the funding over a long period of time is a difficult one. However, there are methods, through which, such fundings are available at a reasonable terms and condi- tions. The book discusses various sectors' expected boom and benefits associated with the land reclamation.

A persuasive suggestion was made to reclaim land with 'Build with nature' technic and very strict monitoring of the total process from the beginning to end.
